ABBY GEOGHEGAN | REPEAT

ARTIST STATEMENT: Obsession often refers to a frame of mind or a state of being haunted by a persistent idea, desire or emotion. My goal is to explore how the use of lines and patterns can abstractly symbolize obsession itself. through the use of these repetitious and pictorial marks I intend to materialize re-occurring perceptions, feelings or thoughts into an orderly and abstract design.

REACTION STATEMENT: When executing my piece for the show my goal was to focus on the use of lines, patterns, shapes and colors to represent the idea of obsession in an abstract way. As a graphic designer it was interesting and made sense to me to try to re-create a feeling or behavior completely graphically. This process was almost like creating a new language, one that was visual rather than auditory in nature. I originally planned to just create a series of posters and then Markus assisted me in also transforming my designs onto scarves. This was done through the help of the “TechStyle” department at Kent State University’s School of Fashion. For me personally this was exciting because I have an interest in fashion design, and was inspired by fashion design patterns for my project. This show was an interesting and challenging process, and I feel that I have really grown as a designer because of it.
